Diapers, wipes and diaper rash cream are also must-haves for any new parent. Other items to consider adding to your registry include a baby carrier, a baby monitor, a changing table and a high chair.

Can I transfer my baby registry from another store?

Yes! Maybe you already started a registry at Amazon or Target and just discovered Babylist—no need to worry. You can easily import everything you've already added at another store to your Babylist registry. As a bonus, your baby registry checklist will automatically reflect what you've already added!

What gear should I register for?

If you’re looking for ideas for what to put on your registry, you’ve come to the right place. If you’re a first-time mom, check out our guide for building a baby registry. It includes everything about what to add and why, FAQs and how to build a registry with items you’ll actually use. If you’re figuring out what to put on your registry for baby number two, we’ve got suggestions for that, too!

What sleep products do I need?

You never really know what's going to help baby sleep better and longer, but some top baby registry items include a safe sleep space, blackout shades, comfy footies, and a soft swaddle. Tech gear–humidifiers, monitors and sound machines to name a few—is also helpful for creating nighttime and naptime routines. And don’t forget a bedtime story or two.

How much clothing should I register for?

When you’re deciding how many baby clothes you need for your new arrival, you’ll want to find the balance between having enough for every outfit change and not overdoing it with too many things they’re grow out of quickly. We suggest about 7 bodysuits or rompers, 3-5 pairs of pants, 4 sleepers, footies and gowns, and 2 sweaters or sweatshirts for winter months. When it comes to accessories, you’ll want socks, hats and a handful of swaddle blankets.

How long will my baby wear newborn sizes?

Clothing is among the top baby registry items. Most newborn sizes top out around eight pounds, so if you have a bigger baby, they may need 0-3 months sizes from the start. (And if they’re on the smaller side, odds are they’ll only fit into newborn sizes for a few weeks anyway.) Pick a few newborn items and then focus on 0-3 months since those clothes will fit babies up to around 12 or 13 pounds.

What diapering supplies do I need?

Wipes, diapers and diaper creams are the most essential items you’ll need when it’s diaper-changing time. Take our baby registry quiz to get personalized recommendations for what to add to your registry for diapering, sleeping and everything in between!

You could build your own (here’s a great list of what to include in a DIY Baby First Aid Kit), or you could save time and choose a kit instead. The Babylist First Aid Kit was created with pediatric ER doctors, with hospital-grade medical supplies and soothers you’ll want for baby’s first year, including a nasal bulb, baby nail clippers, a thermometer and more, plus info on infant/toddler CPR, fever/medication dosing chart, red flags to call 9-1-1 or go to the ER, and step-by-step instructions written by emergency doctors.

FAQs

What category do pacifiers fall under? ›

The investigators concluded that pacifiers should be considered to be attachment objects, similar to other security objects like blankets.

How do I find someone's registry on Babylist? ›

You can search for public Babylist registries using Find a Registry on our homepage. Not all Babylist registries are public. The only way to access a private one is by direct link.

Can you do a baby registry online? ›

A Universal Baby Registry is a gift list where you can add items from any store in the world—online or brick-and-mortar (really!). Gifts can be products, experiences, even a Cash Gift Fund for big-ticket items.

Should I put pacifiers on my registry? ›

Not all babies like pacifiers, and when they do, they can be particular about which ones they like. Many hospitals will send you home with a pacifier or two. Rather than registering for pacifiers and ending up with several that your baby doesn't like, try out a few different styles once you get home before stocking up.

How many items are too many for a baby registry? ›

Most people agree that having more than 150 items on your baby registry is too much. Even if you are a first-time mom of twins, you shouldn't need so many things. And if you have limited space in a small apartment, you may want only a very few essentials to begin with.

How many wipes to put on registry? ›

When registering for baby wipes, we recommend 1 or 2 large boxes. We also have a subscription option, should friends and family want to cover you for a couple months. We also have gift cards from $10-$1,000 if you'd rather give someone the option to buy as many wipes as they need.

How early should you start a baby registry? ›

Many first-time mothers start creating their registry as early as 12 weeks. This is a great time to begin creating the registry, not sharing the registry.

Is a pacifier a transitional object? ›

Often also referred to as a security object or lovey, a baby transitional object is any object your baby bonds with. Most commonly, a transitional object is a teddy bear, a pacifier, or a soft blanket, though sometimes it's more unique: one baby I know loved a piece of Tupperware!

Are pacifiers round or orthodontic? ›

Orthodontic pacifiers are specially designed with baby's developing teeth in mind and help to minimize misalignment caused by pacifiers. The shape of the nipple supports the developing jaw and palate. Traditional round pacifiers may have a higher chance of causing an open bite or overbite than orthodontic pacifiers do.

Is a pacifier a sleep association? ›

Sucking is natural and soothing and can help a baby or toddler transition to sleep without other sleep associations like rocking or feeding to sleep. However, pacifier use can also become a powerful sleep association, leading some babies to wake up every 1-2 hours all night long needing to have it replaced.
